A pantyliner can be useful when you need protection for light discharge or spotting but do not need a full-size sanitary pad. Using one correctly starts with choosing it for the right purpose, positioning it securely and changing it when needed.

If you are trying pantyliners for the first time, this guide explains the routine, from opening the wrapper to disposing of the used liner.

What should you use a pantyliner for?

Pantyliners are intended for small amounts of everyday vaginal discharge and light spotting. They can help protect underwear when a sanitary pad would be more protection than you need.

Choose according to the amount you are experiencing, not simply the day of your cycle. A few occasional spots may suit a liner. Continuing menstrual flow calls for a sanitary pad designed for that purpose.

You do not have to wear a liner every day. It is an optional product for your comfort and convenience.

How to put on a pantyliner

Six steps to a comfortable fit
  1. Wash and dry your hands. Have clean, dry underwear ready so the adhesive can attach to the fabric.
  2. Open the individual wrapper. Check the packaging for any product-specific instructions.
  3. Remove the adhesive release paper. The adhesive side attaches to your underwear, never directly to your skin.
  4. Position the liner inside the crotch of your underwear. Place it where you need protection rather than automatically lining it up with a seam.
  5. Press it gently onto the fabric. Smooth out folds so the liner lies flat.
  6. Check the fit after dressing. It should feel comfortable without folding, pulling or rubbing.

If the product has a shaped front or back, follow the orientation shown on its packaging. Do not assume every brand or liner shape is identical.

How do you know whether the position is right?

The liner should cover the area where light discharge or spotting normally reaches your underwear. If you repeatedly notice marks just beyond one end, check whether the liner needs repositioning.

Also check whether it has moved or folded during wear. Placement and underwear fit both matter: a liner cannot protect an area it no longer covers.

If the liner becomes saturated or spotting develops into menstrual flow, repositioning alone is not the solution. Switch to a suitable sanitary pad.

Why does a pantyliner fold or move?

A liner may shift when it is not securely attached, when the fabric is damp, or when its shape does not sit well in the underwear you are wearing.

Start by checking that the release paper has been fully removed and the adhesive is attached to dry fabric. Smooth the liner into place and check that the underwear holds it comfortably against your body.

Do not add glue, tape or other adhesives. If the liner will not stay in place, replace it or try a more suitable underwear-and-liner combination.

When should you change a pantyliner?

Follow the changing instructions on the packaging. Change when the liner becomes damp or soiled, and sooner if it feels uncomfortable.

Do not assume one liner should last through an entire workday, college day or journey. Carry replacements so you can change according to your needs.

If your underwear itself becomes wet, replace it rather than relying on a fresh liner to make damp clothing comfortable. If irritation occurs, stop using the liner.

Can you use two liners for more protection?

Stacking liners is not a substitute for choosing a product with the right intended use. It can also make the fit less comfortable.

If a liner cannot manage the amount of bleeding, choose a sanitary pad rather than adding more liners. Stay Sure recommends pantyliners for spotting and Regular/Large pads for light menstrual flow.

How to remove and dispose of a pantyliner

  1. Wash your hands before changing.
  2. Gently peel the used liner away from the underwear.
  3. Fold or roll it inward, keeping the used surface contained.
  4. Wrap it in its wrapper or another suitable disposal covering.
  5. Place it in the designated sanitary-waste bin or follow your local waste-disposal arrangements.
  6. Wash your hands afterwards.

Do not flush: Do not flush the liner, its wrapper or the adhesive release paper down the toilet.

What should you carry when away from home?

A small pouch with individually wrapped replacement liners, a sanitary pad and spare underwear can help you manage changing needs without carrying a large kit.

A disposal bag can be useful where an appropriate bin is not immediately available. Keep unused products clean and dry until needed.

For long commutes or travel, plan opportunities to check and change. Limited bathroom access does not mean the same liner should be worn beyond its instructions.

Choosing a Stay Sure pantyliner

Stay Sure’s pack of four, with 20 liners per pack, contains 80 liners in total. Each liner is 155 mm long, with a five-layer construction, adhesive backing and individual wrapping.

These liners are intended for light everyday discharge and spotting, not regular or heavy menstrual flow. Individual comfort can vary, so check the fit, change when damp or soiled and stop use if irritation occurs.

Frequently asked questions

Which side of a pantyliner faces upwards?

The absorbent surface faces your body. The adhesive side, exposed after removing the release paper, attaches to your underwear. Follow the packaging if you are unsure.

Does a pantyliner stick to the skin?

No. Attach it to the inside of your underwear, not directly to your skin.

Can I use a pantyliner during my period?

It may be suitable when there is only spotting. Choose a sanitary pad when menstrual flow needs more protection. Do not decide by period day alone.

Can I reuse a disposable pantyliner?

No. Remove and dispose of it after use, then use a fresh liner when needed.

What if a liner makes me itchy?

Stop using it. Seek medical advice if irritation persists or you have other concerning symptoms. Do not keep using a product just because it is described as suitable for sensitive skin.

Correct use is about matching the product to your needs, keeping it comfortably positioned and changing it promptly. Explore Stay Sure pantyliners for light discharge and spotting.
